USED DEVICE FOR THE TREATMENT OF RHINITIS THROUGH BIOESTIMULATIVE LIGHTING
History of the invention
The present invention relates to a further development and improvement of apparatus for the treatment of rhinitis, hay fever and similar allergic diseases (hereinafter collectively called rhinitis) of the type described in the American patent document No. 5,683,436 (Mendes, et al. ), which is hereby incorporated by reference (hereinafter referred to as the base patent).
In summary, the base patent exemplified several options for retaining the LEDs (currently a carrier or box of LEDs - hereinafter referred to as probes) inside the patient's nostrils during the treatment periods (several minutes daily).
In practice, however, none of these options were implemented, but, on the contrary, the configuration as shown schematically in figure 1 of the attached drawings (see for example the website www.syroliqht.com under the product BIONASE). In more detail, the equipment comprises a pair of LEDs or LEDs containing probes 102a and 102b mounted on a common support 104 made of a flexible material such as rubber.
A length of wire 106 with plug 108 produces the electrical power and control box 110. The box contains batteries of dry and rechargeable batteries and the circuit set necessary to activate the LEDs, together with conventional auxiliary devices such as pilot light 112, button on-off 114, etc.
Such devices inhibit the release of histamine, relieving or even completely eliminating allergic reactions. There are no side effects associated with the use
2/7 of the device and there is no need to overload the body with drugs. Therefore, such devices were considered a notable advance for the treatment of allergic reactions.
However, the Bionase-type configuration involves discomfort on the part of the user since it is necessary to limit its maneuverability, just as it has happened with other instruments associated with wire such as Discmans or cell phone headsets.
In addition, this setting makes use by children and even babies virtually prohibited.
Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to remedy the above mentioned disadvantages of the conventional configuration.
It is also an object of the invention to make the device a wireless device and therefore self-contained.
Brief Description of the Invention
Thus, according to embodiments of the present invention, a device for the treatment of rhinitis through biostimulative lighting is provided. The device comprises a pair of LEDs that contain probes adapted to be inserted into a patient's nostrils and a probe support box that is made at least partially of an elastomeric material. The box accommodates an electrical power source, a normally open ON / OFF microswitch and circuit means for activating / deactivating the LEDs. The microswitch is activated by pressing on a side wing of the box which also causes the probes to expand far apart.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the arrangement is such that the microswitch remains closed as long as the probes are kept apart between
3/7
In addition, according to some embodiments of the present invention, the probes are normally flexibly drawn against each other.
In addition, according to some embodiments of the present invention, the box is made of at least one flexible material.
In addition, according to some embodiments of the present invention, the box comprises a semi-rigid core embedded in an elastomeric foam material.
In addition, according to some embodiments of the present invention, the power source comprises a coin-shaped battery that can be inserted into a cavity formed in the box through a groove.

Figure 11 illustrates how to use the device.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments
With respect to figures 2 and 3, the device according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention is configured in such a way that the probes and associated control parts and components are integrated into a single piece, generally a pillow-shaped package, resulting in on a self-contained device. In this way, probes 202a and 202b are mounted in a housing 204 that encloses the entire circuitry of the device. Box 204 may be made of flexible type materials such as, for example, elastomers and similar to those which will be described in more detail below.
In a waiting position, the probes are tilted with respect to each other as shown in the figures. However, before use, for example, before inserting the probes into the nostrils, when pushing against two opposite side wings 206a and 206b this causes the probe 202a and the probe 202b to stretch elastically to facilitate the insertion of the
5/7 probes into the nostrils as well as activating the electrical circuit as will be described in more detail below.
Figure 3 shows a groove 302 through which the power source, preferably a coin-shaped battery, slides into a cavity 302a formed inside the box 204 (see Fig. 8).
Figure 4 clearly shows the region to be pushed, namely, the side wing 206a thus causing probe 202a to move away from probe 202b (not shown in this figure). A side view of the groove 302 through which the battery slides into position can also be seen here.
Figure 5 shows the internal components of the device, which include coin-type battery 502, LEDs 504a and 504b, wires 505a and 505b provided for this, contact 506b, and normally open microswitch 506a. Figure 5 shows the basic structure of the device. The device, according to some embodiments of the present invention, can be made of at least two different materials selected from rigid, semi-rigid and flexible type materials such as, for example, polymeric materials of various types. The use of material combinations allows the manufacture of a wireless, compact and portable device.
Thus, according to some embodiments of the present invention, box 204 contains reinforcement skeleton or core 508 which is made of a semi-rigid material such as, for example, semi-rigid polymers. Core 508 is embedded in the loading material 510 which can be a foam or foam composite made of eiastomeric materials. Probes 202a and 202b are structured to include at least two layers, i.e., inner sleeve 512 which is made of a flexible type material such as elastomers
6/7 and a bare coating 514 that can be made of a semi-rigid or rigid plastic material.
Gloves 512 are formed with passages 516a and 516b within which LEDs 504a and 504b and wires 505a and 505b are accommodated as best seen in figure 6.
We should note that the specific configuration of 508 and the use of a foam-like loading material 504 and an essential combination of the present configuration as long as it allows the probes to spread as desired (see figure 11) and thus allows the manufacture of such a device compact and ready to use.
Another unique feature of the device is that the excessive distance of the probes also produces the actuation of the microswitch 506a. This happens when pushing the side wing 206a (signed LIGA in figure 4) compacting, therefore, the elastomeric material 510 to transfer the pressure to the switching component of the microswitch (see Fig. 5). The switch 506a will be kept closed as long as the pressure is maintained, that is, as long as the probes are kept apart from each other while inserted into the patient's nostrils (Fig. 11).
Additional details of the interior structure and circuitry are shown in the figure.
Contact 506b constantly engages the (+) pole, and contact 506c constantly engages the (-) pole of the 502 coin-type battery when inserted into cavity 302a.
It should be noted that the device can be readily manufactured in a simple manufacturing process such as, for example, an injection molding process to form a unified structure. In this way, the skeleton 508, LEDs 504a and 504b, wires 505a and 505b, contacts 506b, 506c and switch 506a are all injection molded into a single implement in a single step operation
7/7 through a production process as shown in figure 10.
As we can see in figure 11, when fixing the box 204 by the side wings 206a and 206b of it, the probes move away against the elasticity of the internal composite structure (core 508 and load 510), thus activating the switch 506a to close the electrical circuit.
We can see that the battery must have a sufficiently high capacity to allow multiple session treatments (lasting typically 3 minutes) before replacement (typically after 4 hours of continuous use).
It is established as soon as a wireless, self-contained device as described above frees the patient from being wired during treatment. Therefore, the patient can feel much more comfortable during treatment sessions. In addition, such a wireless device would be highly recommended for the treatment of young children as there are no wires with which children could be strangled and the device can be made in various sizes so that they can be adapted to children and adults.
The person skilled in the art to which this invention relates will readily consider that numerous modifications, variations and alterations may be made without departing from the true scope of the invention as defined in any of the dependent claims. In this way, for example, the operating side wing 206a can be separated, suspended in the box and adapted by spring action, instead of the box being filled with elastomeric foam material 510; the LED activation circuit can comprise a timer for pre-selecting the duration of the treatment session; a battery capacity indicator; etc.
